Madison, Indiana is not only home to amazing and distinctive architecture in its residential neighborhoods and historic downtown, it also boasts some of the prettiest churches in the Midwest. Below are a few of our favorites.
Christ Episcopal Church
Completed in 1850, Christ Episcopal's building contains numerous stained glass windows that have been meticulously restored and are considered a national treasure. Learn more.
St. Michael the Archangel
Completed in 1839, it is the oldest Gothic-Revival Catholic church building in Indiana and is especially notable for its pointed arch windows. It was donated to Historic Madison, Inc. Learn about tours.
Church of Jesus Christ
The Madison Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was established in the 1980s. Its building was built in two stages and is a beautiful example of Indiana limestone. Learn more.
First Baptist Church
The First Baptist Church of Madison, founded in 1807, is the oldest Baptist church in the state of Indiana. Its building is a magnificent Greek-Revival structure with a Tracker pipe organ. Learn more.
First Christian Church
Erected in 1863, this First Christian Church building was almost completely destroyed by two fires in 1899 and 1989. It was completely rebuilt into the structure that stands today on Main. Learn more.
Prince of Peace
In 1851, under German hands, the walls were built of this Catholic masterpiece. This magnificent building was dedicated to The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Learn more.
Built in 1874 for $30k, its grand spire makes it the tallest church in the city and probably its most famous. It has a full industrial kitchen and dining area in the basement. Learn more.
Trinity United Methodist
Built in 1835, the former Second Presbyterian Church (now the John T. Windle Memorial Auditorium) looks like an ancient Greek temple with its large stone work and pillars. Learn more.
Second Presbyterian
Once affiliated with the United Methodist Church, West Madison is now an independent church. We don't know its history, but it's the first church visitors see on their drive into town! Learn more.

Hanover College's historic campus chapel, completed in 1955, features variable seating for 100 people and chancel, all surrounded by beautiful stained-glass windows Learn more.
Brown Memorial Chapel
First Presbyterian
After a series of fires, the church relocated to its current location in 1846. One of the early members was Henry Ward Beecher, brother of Harriet Beecher Stowe of Uncle Tom's Cabin. Learn more.
